If you are a straight person, there are abundant validations for your sexual preferences in the daily bombardment of visual stimuli (television, advertising, etc.) Gay people however do need to feel that validity of seeing a character who has no shame about his sex life. Yes, the character of Connor is highly sexual - some people are that way, gay or straight - but this is an aspect of character writing and likely has a secondary goal of opening up the floor for later commentary on the psychological complexities of your average sex fiend.
