First Lady above the law cuz she's "well liked" & "doesn't know what she's doing"

Yeah, um, I don't think that's the standard for the law...

First lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law -- when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place!

"You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's pretty well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing."

Ridiculous.

If a Republican First Lady had done this, the poll workers would have tried to escort her out.

If a Republican First Lady did that, the MSM would be howling, bawling, and screeching about it for weeks, and the liberal pols would never let anyone forget it. But this is [wannabe] Empress Obama, so they'll let it slide!

So what was being said was "ignorance of the law IS an excuse"?

Huh... they didn't say that when John Gilmore sued over the "secret law" that prevented him from flying (http://www.papersplease.org/gilmore/index.html). What was ultimately decided by the courts was that not only were we to remain ignorant of the law, we STILL have to obey it. So ignorance of the law is not an excuse even when that ignorance is REQUIRED by law.

The First Lady (who is NOT a member of the government) is a citizen, who must adhere to the same laws as the rest of us. Indeed, even members of the government are citizens, with no more rights than the rest of us, and they may no more ignore the law than we may.

Or at least, that is how it is supposed to be.
