Red Light District on the Red Line

That's my metro stop!

Metro workers snagged in sex sting
A Metro station manager and a Metro custodian were arrested on prostitution charges after an undercover transit police investigation found they arranged sexual trysts for money from inside the Dupont Circle Metro station.

At one point the employees used the Metro loudspeaker system to facilitate an illicit sexual arrangement, according to police who arrested the pair last week.

Sharon Waters, a Red Line station manager, told an undercover police officer at the Dupont Circle station June 4 that she could arrange meetings with local prostitutes for him, according to court documents.

5-4?!

Are you kidding me?!?! Only 5 out of 9 justices can read an explicit sentence in the Constitution?! This should have been an easy 9-0 decision. If Obama is elected and gets to appoint more justices, I weep for the future.

Supreme Court says Americans have right to guns
Well, the Supreme Court said it so that makes it so, right liberals? Just like "fundamental human right" to abortion and sodomy? Oh, wait, those aren't actually IN the Constitution...

District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty responded with a plan to require residents of the nation's capital to register their handguns. "More handguns in the District of Columbia will only lead to more handgun violence," Fenty said.

Riiiiight. Because DC is such a violence-free paradise right now without guns. This is mind boggling. It has been established in study after study that more guns = less crime

In a dissent he summarized from the bench, Justice John Paul Stevens wrote that the majority "would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the Framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of weapons."

Oh, really, yet, Justice Stevens, you "would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the Framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate" abortion.

He said such evidence "is nowhere to be found."

Yeah, those Framers really just had so much faith and trust in government, they wanted to give elected officials as many possible tools to regulate civilian activity. Just like their pal King George! IDIOT!

Justice Stephen Breyer wrote a separate dissent in which he said, "In my view, there simply is no untouchable constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to keep loaded handguns in the house in crime-ridden urban areas."

Well, how come in your view there IS an untouchable constitutional right guaranteed to abortion - never once even remotely mentioned by the Founders, never mind in the Constitution?!

Who do you think now keeps loaded handguns in the house in crime-ridden urban areas? Does he honestly think that just because there was a DC gun ban that no one had guns in DC? And that now all of a sudden criminals are going to come out of the woodwork to register their guns so that they can be prosecuted for past and future crimes?!

Chicago mayor Richard Daley said he didn't know how the high court ruling would affect the city, but said that the ruling was "a very frightening decision." He predicted an end to Chicago's handgun ban would spark new violence and force the city to raise taxes to pay for new police.

What's really very frightening is that your city was the country's "Murder Capital" in 2003. Good job, gun ban! Way to sacrifice human victims for the cause!

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., a leading gun control advocate in Congress, criticized the ruling. "I believe the people of this great country will be less safe because of it," she said.

The country will only be more safe if they can defend themselves from criminals.

The comments from public officials are astoundingly stupid considering that since at least 2001 the city with the most murders has also "coincidentally" also had a gun ban (or in Philadelphia's case a concealed carry ban) - Detroit, DC, Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia.

Just rationally think for a moment about what a gun ban actually does - it takes away guns from law-abiding citizens. Criminals and gangs do not just walk up to police officers and give up their guns. They know exactly how to get guns and they traffic them on the black market. It is pure fantasy to think a gun ban will mean fewer guns will be available for use in the commission of a crime.

And it's not as if no guns = no crime. In other countries where there are gun bans there are mass stabbing incidents. This leads to the shocking revelation that People Kill People

There is really a huge problem when I am 100 times smarter than 4 Supreme Court Justices and most politicians.

UPDATE:

Mayors: Gun ruling won't stop prevention efforts

"There are so many guns on the streets," said Pamela Bosely, a Chicago resident whose 18-year-old son Terrell was fatally shot in 2006. "If you didn't have the guns, we'd still have our children."

You're from CHICAGO! You HAVE a gun ban! And unfortunately it did nothing to protect your son.

Just your friendly neighborhood abortionists

Thank God we don't have those awful unsafe, inhumane "back alley" abortions anymore, huh? Roe v. Wade really cleaned up the abortion business!

Abortion Practitioner's License Suspended in Kentucky, Shuts Down Center

A Kentucky abortion practitioner engaged in such shoddy practices that state officials have temporarily suspended his medical license. The action comes after Hamid Hussain Sheikh pleaded not guilty in November to charges that he wrongly billed the state for abortions at his business.

...
In the course of the investigation, the Kentucky medical licensure board talked with numerous former patients who said he treated them poorly. The agency also found problems at his abortion center.

According to a WHAS-TV report, former patients told Kentucky officials Sheikh didn't perform ultrasounds prior to abortions, did a vaginal exam without sterile equipment, and several reported dirty clothing or saw blood on the equipment.

Most of the 22 patients interviewed say they didn't get pain pills or anesthesia prior to the abortion and 8 patients were not required to wait the 24 hours state law requires after getting information about abortion's risks and alternatives.

The television station reported that one woman complained Sheikh told her to "shut up" after experiencing pain during the abortion so other patients in the waiting room wouldn't hear her screams. The board's inspection of the Lexington abortion business found medications that had expired and bio-hazardous waste that has not been properly disposed in over 12 weeks.

Another Study Suggests Planned Parenthood at Fault in Abortion Drug Deaths

Another study suggests Planned Parenthood is at fault in the deaths of women in the United States from the abortion drug RU 486. The abortion business had been telling women to use the drug in a different way than the FDA guidelines suggested and the study shows it contributed to the deaths.

So far, eight women have died from the use of the abortion drug, including women going to Planned Parenthood abortion centers in California.

Planned Parenthood had been telling women to use the abortion drug vaginally, even though the FDA indicated oral use is safer for women.

It wasn't until four California women all died within a week of using the abortion drug they received from Planned Parenthood abortion businesses that it changed its policy to conform to the FDA protocol.

Abortion Center Owners Officially Charged With Doing Unlicensed Abortions

Two owners of a chain of abortion businesses in southern California were officially charged Friday with 10 felony counts of practicing medicine without a license and grand theft. Bertha Bugarin and her sister Raquel have pleaded not guilty to doing abortions despite not holding a medical license.

The pair face up to nine years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Bertha Pinedo Bugarin stands accused of telling women considering abortions that she was a licensed medical doctor. She also illegally prescribed the women drugs that only a licensed physician can prescribe.

Prosecutors said Bugarin's actions put women at risk and cited one case involving a woman who had to be rushed to the hospital because of a life-threatening medical condition.

"This defendant preyed on women in the Hispanic community," San Diego County Dist. Atty. Bonnie Dumanis said during the Friday hearing, according to the Los Angeles Times. "By passing herself off as a doctor, she put these women's lives in serious danger."

...
She said one woman ultimately gave birth prematurely to a baby who lived for three hours before dying. A second paid $500 for an abortion and had to return a second time because the abortion procedure failed to remove all of the body of the unborn child.

According to the Times, Chula Vista Police Chief Rick Emerson led an investigation over a year into the Bugarins and he said patients "were subjected to pain and risk of great bodily injury because of Bugarin's lack of medical training."

Extreme Ironing

Man 'kidnapped ex-girlfriend to do ironing'

A man has been arrested over the kidnap of his ex-girlfriend after he allegedly forced her into his home - and ordered her to do the ironing.

The 43-year-old Italian apparently dragged the woman out of a bar in the port city of Genoa in the north of the country and pushed her into his car, before taking her back to his house.

Once there, he threatened to hurt her before making her iron his clothes and do the washing up, police said.

Officers were called to the property by a friend of the woman who saw the scene unfold at the bar.

Babies Mamas

I used to live the next town over from Gloucester (pronounced Glaw-ster)

As summer vacation begins, 17 girls at Gloucester High School are expecting babies—more than four times the number of pregnancies the 1,200-student school had last year.

...School officials started looking into the matter as early as October after an unusual number of girls began filing into the school clinic to find out if they were pregnant. By May, several students had returned multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and on hearing the results, "some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Sullivan says. All it took was a few simple questions before nearly half the expecting students, none older than 16, confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. Then the story got worse. "We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy," the principal says, shaking his head.

Watch out for cars with bumper stickers.

That's the surprising conclusion of a recent study by Colorado State University social psychologist William Szlemko. Drivers of cars with bumper stickers, window decals, personalized license plates and other "territorial markers" not only get mad when someone cuts in their lane or is slow to respond to a changed traffic light, but they are far more likely than those who do not personalize their cars to use their vehicles to express rage -- by honking, tailgating and other aggressive behavior.

That picture is of my first car, may she rest in peace. I went a little overboard with the stickers #1. because it was an old car so I didn't need to worry too much about keeping it nice for the next person and #2. it was right after Sept. 11

Here's my current car except the plates have changed and somebody stole my "W" magnet since then:

I am an aggressive driver, but I never thought it was my bumper stickers that gave me away, I thought it was the MA plates!

It's interesting that people with stuff on their cars would be more aggressive - I actually tried to be more careful because I knew if I did anything flagrant my car would be easily identifiable to authorities.

I prefer the word "assertive." It is important to be assertive if you want to get where you are going quickly. Some recent gripes:
  • Don't dally at intersections when you see the walk signal counting down - make sure you get through without getting stuck at a red light.
  • Don't let everyone and their mother go ahead of you at a 4 way stop - when it's your turn GO!
  • Don't stop for pedestrians in the middle of a four lane road - they aren't using a cross walk and it's dangerous if the driver next to you goes flying by as they are crossing in front of your car.
  • Don't stop at a Yield sign in light traffic - they decided not to put a Stop sign there for a reason.

I am even assertive in the Metro - I say "Excuse me" when someone is standing on the left side of the escalator so us walkers can keep going. Instead of slowing down and hesitating, allowing people to go in front of me when a crowd is funneling onto the escalator, I step up and take advantage of people's deference to get on the escalator quickly.

I am never so aggressive that I get into an altercation - I am too afraid of someone attacking me. But being assertive usually gets you want you want - and I like that!

Political Innocence Lost

I almost pity the naivete of these young idealistic Obama followers. Almost.

Muslims barred from picture at Obama event

Abdelfadeel, like Aref, felt "disappointed, angry and let-down," she later wrote.

She was "let-down that the Obama campaign continously perpetuates this attitude towards Muslims and Arabs — as if being merely associated [with] one is a sin."

The two women's friends who witnessed the incidents were disappointed too. Aref's friend Miller said he was "shocked" [SHOCKED!] by the contrast between Obama's message and their experience.

"He was the one candidate who you would expect to stand up for something like that — and behind the scenes you have something completely contrary to what he was running on," said Koussan, Aref's other friend.

Welcome to the world of politics, kid!

W&L Shout Out

Just read this article on a new college ranking system that ranks Washington and Lee as the #6 liberal arts school (U.S. News & World Report ranks us 15) WOOT WOOT!

How to Choose a College

U.S. News evaluates educational quality by looking inside colleges at measures like faculty-student ratios, admissions selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

I think the U.S. News rankings ought to get a D. They're roughly equivalent to evaluating a chef based on the ingredients he or she uses. At the Center for College Affordability & Productivity, a two-year-old research organization in Washington, D.C. with a free-market bent, we evaluate colleges on results. Do students like their courses? How successful are they once they graduate? In short, we review the meal.

Our measures begin with student evaluations posted on Ratemyprofessors.com, a nine-year-old site with 6.8 million student-generated evaluations. We look at college graduation rates (as does U.S. News). We also calculate the percent of students winning awards like Rhodes Scholarships and undergraduate Fulbright travel grants. For vocational success we turn to Who's Who in America. Though imperfect, it is the only comprehensive listing of professional achievement that includes undergraduate affiliations.

Make Way for Ducklings

Trapped beneath the surface in a dark sewer, six little ducklings found themselves cut off and facing a distinctly uncertain future.

Their only hope of ever seeing daylight again lay with their mother who they had last seen two miles away as they were sucked into a drain.

It seemed an impossible task.

Yet, she followed her brood's cries for a mile, crossing a busy roundabout, countless roads, a metro rail line, a housing estate, two school playing fields and hospital grounds.

Her epic journey finally ended when she waddled onto Barrasford Close in Gosforth, an affluent suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne, where her chicks suddenly stopped.

It was there, standing over a manhole cover, that the mother remained for the next four hours until stunned local residents heard chirping coming from down below.

They in turn launched a massive operation to reunite the ducklings with their mother.

Removing the manhole cover they used a child's fishing net to scoop all six out from the sewer one by one before placing them and their tired mother in a paddling pool.

Mummy Milk

Ick!

Her friends are horrified, but the woman who still suckles her five-year-old insists: I'll breastfeed till they're EIGHT!

'Of course, some people are squeamish - they don't like three-month- olds feeding in public, let alone three-year-olds sitting on your knee - but you wouldn't throw a blanket over a sheep feeding a lamb in a field, would you? It's what nature intended.

'One friend said she thinks it's a bit strange and sometimes pulls a face, but most mothers I know are also long-term breastfeeders. Though my children are the eldest ones I know of, many women breastfeed late but keep it private for fear of public rejection. I think women want to continue for as long as possible, but public and family pressure makes them give up earlier.

'Mine will probably stop feeding between the ages of five and eight. Whenever they lose their milk teeth and can no longer suckle, but I would never stop them - I want my children to self-wean, as children who do tend to be more confident and self-assured adults. If you don't meet your child's needs, they become distant and more troubled during adolescence. '

Josephine has said she doesn't want to stop till adulthood. She really enjoys it and has actually told me she won't stop until she gets married.

She often says: "I never want to stop my mummy milk."

'Zac loves it, too - he says it's yummy and sweet.'

Super Theft

Nice ring, but I think it would look better with rubies and sapphires to give it color.

Giants Super Bowl Rings Stolen In Attleboro Heist

Police say New York Giants Super Bowl rings were among the $2 million worth of items stolen from an Attleboro jewelry company sometime over the weekend.

Thieves disabled the alarm system at E.A. Dion's building on Franklin McKay Drive, cut a hole in the roof and made off with a safe that weighed at least 1,000 pounds. It held the rings, gold, and gems.

...The Super Bowl rings, which were manufactured by the company, were to be given to the Giants staff to commemorate New York's 17-14 win over the New England Patriots in February, team spokesman Pat Hanlon said.

The white gold rings -- which were designed by Tiffany and Co. and valued at $25,000 -- were exactly the same as the ones players and coaches received last month.

The team's "NY" logo is set in round diamonds, while "World Champions" is emblazoned in raised letters on the top and bottom bezel, with channel-set diamonds on the left and right bezel. The rings also feature the team's three Super Bowl trophies.
Wait a minute, the Giants' Super Bowl rings were stolen in Massachusetts? I blame Patriots fans!

People Kill People

I thought this was an interesting article because I had always heard 1. that only guns are used in mass murders so we should ban guns and 2. that other countries don't have mass murders and that is because they don't have guns. Guess we'll have to ban knives now, too.

7 dead in stabbing spree in downtown Tokyo

A man plowed into shoppers with a truck Sunday and then stabbed 17 people within minutes, killing at least seven of them in a grisly attack that shocked a country known for its low crime rate.

...
Japan boasts a low crime rate compared to other industrialized nations and Tokyo, with a population of 12.7 million, is considered relatively safe. But stabbings, once rare in the country, have become more frequent in recent years.

In March, one person was stabbed to death and at least seven others were hurt by a man who went on a slashing spree with two knives outside a shopping mall in eastern Japan. In January, a 16-year-old boy attacked five people in a shopping area, injuring two of them.

A spate of knife attacks also have occurred in schools, the worst on June 8, 2001 when a man with a history of mental illness burst into elementary school near Osaka killing eight children. He was executed in 2004.

Sounds like instead of "shooting sprees" they have "slashing sprees." And instead of "school shootings" they have "school stabbings."

Maybe it really IS true that guns don't kill people, people kill people!

An Abortion with a Happy Ending!

Mother's anger turns to delight after her baby survives an abortion

Finley Crampton really shouldn't be here. Although his parents would have loved another child, they knew their baby could inherit a life-threatening kidney condition – and they couldn't take the risk.

After all, their first son had died of the condition and the second was born with serious kidney damage.

...'Deciding to terminate at eight weeks was just utterly horrible but I couldn't cope with the anguish of losing another baby,' said Miss Percival, 25.

However, Finley had other ideas. ...

...The child had survived the abortion and thrived in the womb. 'I couldn't believe it,' said Miss Percival. 'This was the baby I thought I'd terminated. At first I was angry that this was happening to us, that the procedure had failed.

'I wrote to the hospital, I couldn't believe that they had let me down like this. They wrote back and apologised and said it was very rare.'

...However, doctors told the couple from Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, that this child was likely to survive, so they decided he deserved a chance.

...He had minor kidney damage but is expected to lead a normal life.

'I knew if that operation hadn't failed he wouldn't have been there,' said Miss Percival, a hairdresser.

'I just couldn't believe that this child had got through it all and looked so perfect.

'He may need an operation but as only one of his kidneys is affected he can survive.

'I still struggle to believe just what he has fought through. Now he's here I wouldn't change it for the world.'

"Abortion is a decision between a woman and her doctor" - but what if the woman and the doctor are wrong? How can we leave such an important life or death decision up to self-interested women who are emotionally scarred and doctors who make the wrong diagnosis and then botch the abortion? How many other healthy babies are aborted because doctors think they may develop problems but the scans are wrong?

Also, how do you explain to your kid, "I tried to abortion you, sorry, I made a mistake"?

Honesty is a Conservative Value

Conservatives more honest than liberals? [YUP!]

[After a long list of studies:]

...Those with a “liberal outlook” who “reject the idea of absolute truth” were more accepting of cheating at school, according to another study, involving 291 students and published in the Journal of Education for Business.

A study in the Journal of Business Ethics involving 392 college students found that stronger beliefs toward “conservatism” translated into “higher levels of ethical values.” And academics concluded in the Journal of Psychology that there was a link between “political liberalism” and “lying in your own self-interest,” based on a study involving 156 adults.

Liberals were more willing to “let others take the blame” for their own ethical lapses, “copy a published article” and pass it off as their own, and were more accepting of “cheating on an exam,” according to still another study in the Journal of Business Ethics.

...Modern liberalism is infused with idea that truth is relative. Surveys consistently show this. And if truth is relative, it also must follow that honesty is subjective.

This article was written by Peter Schweizer, author of Makers and Takers: Why Conservatives Work Harder, Feel Happier, Have Closer Families, Take Fewer Drugs, Give More Generously, Value Honesty More, Are Less Materialistic and Envious, Whine Less ... And Even Hug Their Children More Than Liberals

It's funny how liberals always try to portray conservatives as bitter, mean, angry, greedy, unhappy scrooges - I believe in psychology this is called projectionism.
.
